This is the fourth recipe to our 12 Days of Vegan Christmas Recipe series! We are happy to provide you with the recipe for Vegan Yorkshire Puddings!Yorkshire Puddings are the cutest little substitute for buns! These puddings are a healthy twist on the classic lard-filled fluff balls. We all know that no Christmas dinner is complete without a hefty serving of carbs, and what better way to enjoy them? If you give this recipe a try (and you should) let us know what you think, and share this recipe with all your friends and family so that they can make these for their guests too!
In 30 minutes you will have fluffy dairy-free Yorkshire Puddings that rise! They make the perfect little cup-shape for a healthy serving of gravy to be ladled into the middle. We know that lots of people like using aquafaba (chickpea water) as an egg substitute so we added optional instructions for you to try out below!
This recipe does call for oil, and it's a very rare occasion that I will actually use it. The reason for needing oil is so that the puddings cook properly. I've tried this recipe multiple times with alternative substitutes and they never seem to turn out properly.
Ingredients2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking powder 1 1/2 cups unsweetened milk of choice
1/2 cup water 1/2 teaspoon salt
~ 6 tsp vegetable oil or coconut oil *Optional - replace the water with aquafaba if you choose to do so. Directions
Preheat oven to 425°F. In a food processor, mix flour, baking powder, milk and water. Put 1/2 teaspoon of the oil into each section of a 12-hole muffin tray and put into the oven on the top shelf until very hot, almost smoking. As soon as you take the tray from the oven, pour in the batter to three-quarters fill the tins (it should sizzle), sprinkle with salt and immediately put back into the oven. Bake until the Yorkshire puddings are well risen, golden brown and crisp, 15 to 20 minutes. Don't open the oven door until the end or they might collapse. Remove immediately.
